Johannes Kepler is a renowned astronomer whose life bridged the late
16th and early 17th century. Through careful observations of the heavens
and his painstaking analyses of them, Kepler sought to find harmony in
the underpinnings of the universe. Music of the Spheres is the English
translation of the terminology coined by Kepler to describe what he believed
was the constant music produced by the interaction of all the celestial
bodies.
Here, Music of the Spheres (MOTS) is a play with music that is
undergoing a transformation into a multimedia piece mixing live music,
live stage action, video, recorded music, and interaction between performers
and audience.Originally conceived as a work for early-music instruments
and tape, parts of MOTS were brought to meetings of the Rhode Island Recorder
Society in the lat 1980s. There, RIRS members were kind enough to play
and interact with the composer on some of the pieces. Musicae Amici, a
Rhode Island based early-music group, later performed two of the instrumentals
at a concert in Providence.

Rhythmically, scientifically,
Moves each particle mote.
See them whirl in the solar winds,
Sparkling diadems. . . .

"White River
Junction" (one verse) |
| |
|
Oh, what could I do?
My shirt was neither black nor blue.
I imagined pickup trucks and slews,
Of crazy farmers with guns, sniping at me for fun,
From White River Junction, White River . . . in Vermont.

"World
Wrestling Champion" (selected lyrics)
from my video Wrestling Lord Zed |
| |
|
I'll jump through the air from the top rope
And slam to the mat, brave as can be.
I've mastered the figure-four leglock
. . . Just give me the chance to compete.
. . . Oh, Vince, I want to be,
World Wrestling Federation Champion. . . .
